Knob Noster State Park Awards
Hi Lonesome Master Naturalists

The Annual Volunteer Recognition Event at Knob Noster State Park (KNSP) was held on March 12th. Along with several other groups and individuals, the Hi Lonesome Chapter was awarded a certificate, 2 KNSP glasses filled with candy kisses and a Shelter House voucher for the 86.5 volunteer hours provided to the park

Some activities that members participated in were the Park Beautification Day, where we removed bush honeysuckle. the Frog and Snake Surveys and the Clearfork Creek Clean-up.

It is nice to have volunteer work appreciated and KNSP is a great partner for our chapter.  It has been decided to use the Shelter Voucher for the annual Chapter picnic on June 6th. So, mark your calendars.
It's Bird Season
With Spring here, birds are ready to nest and raise a family.  To help them out, nesting boxes provide a safe place to raise their young.

Roxanne Stockdall put a bluebird house up at Brun's Tract in Green Ridge. The preferred location for this new box was along Hope Dell Road, south of the parking lot to Windsor Road. She chose the last post which was nearest Windsor Road, across  the road from Brun's Tract, and positioned the box at about 5 feet high, facing east.

Next time you're in that area, do a little bird watching and see if this box is being used by bluebirds. 
And speaking of nesting, 2 pair of Barn Owls have started to use a couple of the nesting boxes on Mora and Kearn areas.

And, the Eagles are breeding, too.  Our Eagle Watch team did not observe eggs or eaglets, but if Momma is near, the babies aren't too far away.
